Original artwork by Maarten Eivind, 2025.
This large-scale work explores the tension between iconic imagery and material reality — where something instantly recognizable is stripped down and recontextualized through raw surface and industrial presence.
Painted on recycled cardboard and mounted on a wooden structure, the piece carries a strong tactile quality. The surface is deliberately rough, layered with textures, perforations, and structural elements that give the work depth and physical weight.
The contrast between the familiar figure and the distressed, reclaimed materials creates a striking visual paradox — playful yet unsettling, polished yet broken. It challenges the viewer’s perception of value, nostalgia, and mass culture.
Due to its scale and presence, the artwork functions as a statement piece. It interacts strongly with space, light, and architecture, becoming a dominant visual element in any room.
The reclaimed materials add history and character, while the composition balances bold form with raw imperfection. Like much of Hjertø’s work, it exists somewhere between pop art, urban decay, and contemporary expression.
