This work is about leaving in a deeper sense — not simply departure, but death, and the quiet passage from one state into another.

Painted on recycled cardboard packaging, Leaving Vegas is a large-scale work with a raw, tactile surface and a powerful industrial character. The composition balances intensity and restraint, combining bold colour, worn texture, and simplified human forms in a way that suggests movement, distance, and emotional ambiguity.

The reclaimed material gives the work a unique physical presence, while the layered surface adds depth and a sense of history. Like much of Hjertø’s work, it exists somewhere between pop art, urban decay, and poetic ruin.
